John Fien undertakes teaching and research n how systemic design processes can help protect communities vulnerable to flooding, bushfire, and cyclone damage and to rebuild more sustainably after disaster damage. His research is applied, interdisciplinary and industry-focused and has covered themes related to: design for carbon-neutral communities, housing for low-carbon living, and disaster risk reduction.
