Aigul Rakisheva

Biography

 

Aigul Rakisheva is a Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, USA. She is pursuing her doctoral degree in the Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership Department with a Global Studies in Education concentration. Aigul is actively engaged in research and teaching activities at UIUC. Her research focuses on Sustainability Education, Information and Communication Technologies, and Initial Teacher Education and she is contributing to various research projects in these areas.

Biography

 

Michael Mayfield is a graduate student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a Masters degree in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership with an emphasis in Global Studies in Education. He currently resides and teaches middle school world history in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. As an educator, he is passionate about how education can be utilized to promote environmental sustainability and advance democratic values across the globe.

Juana Martinez-Neal is the recipient of the 2019 Caldecott Honor for Alma and How She Got Her Name (Candlewick Press), her debut picture book as author-illustrator. She is a New York Times bestselling illustrator recipient of the 2020 Robert F. Sibert Medal for Fry Bread: A Native American Story (Roaring Brook) and the 2018 Pura Belpré Medal for Illustration for La Princesa and the Pea (Putnam).

I am passionate about environmental protection and am actively involved in many environmentally focused student groups and events here on campus. I volunteer as a water monitor for the MNPCA. In the future, I want to be an environmental and energy lawyer, and I hope to use my time as an undergraduate student to learn as much as I can about climate teaching and learning, as well as environmental science and policy.

Amber Armstrong

Biography

 

Amber is a PhD candidate in STEM Education (Mathematics Education Track). She is interested in developing mathematics curricula related to understanding the algebra of climate models. Amber has also developed and researched mathematical modeling tasks aimed at encouraging students to think through possible solutions to environmental issues.
